News: Weinstein Co. set to buy Wettest County
2011 | Featured, Mentions, News
If you’ve been paying any special attention to the buzz at Cannes this year, you know that Shia’s upcoming flick, The Wettest County in the World has been the source of a lot of attention and there’s been a lot of talk
about who would snap it up. Well, it looks like the honor goes to Weinstein Co., here’s what L.A. Times Blog has to say:
Harvey Weinstein’s the Weinstein Co. is making another major buy at the Cannes Film Festival, closing a deal to acquire the Shia LaBeouf-Tom Hardy period dramatic thriller “The Wettest County in the World” for between $4 million and $5 million, according to a source familiar with the deal who asked not to be identified because the acquisition had not officially been announced.
The movie, which is directed by John Hillcoat (“The Road”), tells the story of sibling bootleggers (LaBeouf, Hardy and Gary Oldman) who during the Depression begin to exact revenge on those who threaten their business.
It’s a rare period role for LaBeouf and also teams him with an actor whose stock has risen significantly since he starred in “Inception” last year. A Weinstein Co. spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.
Based on a book by Matt Bondurant, the film also stars up-and-comers Mia Wasikowska (“Restless”) and Jessica Chastain (“The Tree of Life”), both of whom have new films at Cannes. The script was written by singer-screenwriter Nick Cave, who previously collaborated with Hillcoat on a movie titled “The Proposal.”
Though it’s a period film, the source said the company would release the movie widely, hoping to capitalize on the thriller genre and the movie’s star power.
Obviously anyone who seriously follows Shia’s career knows how ridiculous it is to state that Wettest County is a rare period film for him, but we’re eager to see it on the big screen. Here’s hoping this ends in Oscar buzz for our Shia!

Shia was listed on People.com as one of the 25 Beauties & Hotties at 25:

Though the self-deprecating Transformers hunk once joked he looks “like Garry Shandling,” there’s no denying LaBeouf’s hot factor. Just ask his two-time leading lady Megan Fox. “He is magnetic,” she told InStyle. “He has those big, unassuming, puppy-dog eyes.”

News: Shia in Talks for Bourne Legacy?
2011 | Featured, Mentions, News
Not sure how true this is, but according to What’s Playing Shia may be in talks for The Bourne Legacy, here’s what they had to say:
Hey ********,
I work at ************ in ********** with Tim, he said you’d probably like this bit for your movie column. Anyway, we’re working on ******* and Shia LaBeouf’s still doing work on it.
Before you guys print that list of Bourne Legacy contenders I thought I’d give you the heads up on another actor that’s being seriously considered for the movie, Shia.
He worked with Frank Marshall on Indiana Jones so no shock he’s had discussions about Bourne. The role is still anyones but just thought I’d let you know that everyone here at ********* knows he’s in the mix – he likes to talk – so there’s a good chance it may end up being Shia.
